The Court-Bakery (Slottsbageriet) is close to the water, far away from the castle so as not to be a fire risk. A set of stairs leads directly down from the bakery to the sea. The laboratory was most primitive. There were no fume exhausts, so when working in the laboratory all windows and doors had to be open; the temperature inside in the winter would approach -12 degrees C.
